ELECTION

I just had a thought, they say every vote counts, but we know that's all bullshit, because no election has ever been won by a single deciding vote especially with this electoral bullshit, now it's basically won by maybe one state, some voice I have. We need to go back to the popular vote and thats how elections need to be won. Never mind, I don't have time to throw my thoughts out there, but I just want it said that I think it can be done better to where everyone's vote counts instead of every thousand or so votes count.

Rest In Peace Robert Culver 1938 - 2010

A very dear friend of mine passed away last night. For those of you who care this is my story of how hetouched my life. Bob, was my friend at the time Kyle's parents land lord, but he was always more than that, he was a friend of theirs, he was a friend of everybody, no one that ever met him didn't like him, he was the single most friendly guy of all time, the world would be better off if everyone just showed a fraction of courteousness that he showed. He saw me help stack wood for Kyle's parents and asked me to help stack his wood at his house and thats all it took. He'd bring in a trailer load of wood and I'd take a couple of hours to stack it for him and he'd pay me 40 bucks, then it grew to me mowing his lawn, then I'd go get the wood with him and this was the usual routine for spring/summer season, then when fall and winter would hit I'd bring the wood in and stack it by the wood burning stove. Twenty bucks a week and breakfast at rail city which eventually turned into Me and Melissa coming over and helping out and we'd go to breakfast at hometown cafe here in lemmon valley. But it was so much more than that, Melissa and I got a flat a long time ago and couldn't pay for it, Bob, payed for it and we'd start paying back, Melissa lost the car and he said no point in paying for a dead horse so I didn't have to finish paying him back, he'd take us out to Sizzler on Christmas Eve, we'd vacation in Santa Cruz with them for a week. We took them out to dinner with Melissa's mom the day after we got married. Them Being Bob and his wife Marge, they became real friends, helping them out wasn't about the money, but they wouldn't have had it any other way, they loved helping us out and we loved helping them out. Bob was a great friend and he's lived a full life, he knew so many people and made so many friendships. I wish I had more to say but its so hard to put forgotten memories to the page, thoughts will come to me about this or that and I'll smile and remember longingly, good times as they say. Good Bye.

Batman finishes off the group of villains he was faced to tackle and is put into special punishment. Zsasz uses this to escape for good, Batman figures on this and escapes, Nightwing and Batman corner him in the tunnels and defeat him, finally released Batman confronts Dr. Arkham and tells him he'll be watching.
Overall a very well written story, more of a detective story than action and as a series with a single objective to focus on a new character with each issue the focus here being Mr. Zsasz, it accomplishes its goal very well. 4 out 5

Offspring (2009)

Offspring, based on the novel by Jack Ketchum, follows a retired small town sheriff as he is presented with a cannibalistic family that he thought he stopped ten years ago. An unsuspecting couple and their new born baby and family friend and her son are invaded by this savage woman and her clan, the sheriff follows their trail to the bloody cave that is their abbatoir. Now, this movie hardly deserves a review, but for those of you who care, the gore is good, but is presented few and far between. The acting, is horrible, don't bother even thinking that I'm being too harsh because it is just horrendous. Sorry folks, on the plus side this is pretty much verbatum of the novel, so at least we have that, if you don't feel like taking on the book, just watch the movie. Highlight below for a spoiler:

In the movie you believe the sheriff dies, in the book, he lives.

Wolfman, The (2010)

Let me start this review by saying that this movie was a highly-anticipated, long-overdue, hugely satisfying horror flick.
The film begins by following the same basic path as the original: a man is missing/dead, Talbot (Benicio Del Toro) comes home to find an unwelcoming family, and history is made. However, for modern times, the film adds much more depth. The man that is missing is Lawrence Talbot’s brother, Ben Talbot, and is found dead in a ditch, having been eaten alive by this werewolf character. Great, Lawrence came home for nothing. Now he has to deal with his psychotic father, played by a very hairy Anthony Hopkins and his dead brother’s beautiful fiancee Gwen Conliffe, played by Emily Blunt, and of course there’s the matter of avenging his brother’s death. Could things get any worse? Oh yes, they could. And they will.
Upon investigating his brother’s demise, Lawrence visits a gypsy camp, which is subsequently attacked by said werewolf. Other than the appearance of Ben’s mangled corpse, this is the first real glimpse of horror we get in this film, which gives us a hint into the tone of the rest of the movie. Heads are torn off, backs are eaten, bellies are scratched open. This werewolf is quick, mean, and hungry. Lawrence chases after the thing and, of course, is bitten but not killed. He lapses into delirium for several days as he recovers from his neck wound. At this point, we are given a much deeper insight into Lawrence’s past and his reason for being so freaking melancholy. Apparently, his mother killed herself when he was just a boy and thus… he is scarred for life.
From here, the plotline is familiar: wound healing too quick, strange changes happening, weird references being made by Anthony Hopkins. There’s also the police detective, played here by Hugo Weaving, who thinks that Lawrence is full of shit. Yes… very, very familiar. As we knew he would, Talbot then turns into a werewolf and goes and eats some people, wakes up the next morning confused, and his father is the one to spell it all out for him. You’re a werewolf, my boy, and by golly, I’m proud of you!
Of course, within the movie is the budding romance between Lawrence and Gwen, which is so very wrong but, because this is a werewolf movie and werewolves are sexy, turns out to be so very right. Emily Blunt and Benicio Del Toro turn out to be a very good-looking couple. Too bad he wants to eat her, and not in the good way.
The movie takes a turn when it is decided that Lawrence is definitely crazy and needs some shock treatment, like the kind he received when he was a kid. His dad pulls some strings and we get a crazy little montage of torture and hallucinations. We come out of it when father dearest visits his son and tells him a deep dark secret which now makes Lawrence really crazy. Time for revenge.
The rest of the movie is a great clusterfuck of killing, detective work, and romance, three things that go great together in a horror flick. Personally, I was supremely impressed by the look of the wolfman himself, looking not like black face nor pure wolf, but instead like half wolf and half man (I think that’s what they were going for…). I liked the special effects and it seems like a lot of thought and energy was put into making these wolf-people look real (did I say people, as in plural? Oops….)
Overall, the flick is a great update of a classic. Great original idea + Modern actors and special effects + a whole lot of new drama = a riveting remake. I now make a petition for Benicio Del Torro to start dating Jenna Fischer. Then my world will be complete!

Zombieland (2009)

Well, where to start, by now all zombie fans have seen this movie, what more could there be to say, well there is my opinion of course. The film starts out after zombies have already taken over the earth and we follow a young man as he makes his way to columbus to find his parents, he meets up with Tallahasee, Witchita and Little Rock, they make it to california and then continue on their way. Not much in the way of plot, but plenty in the way of characterization, this movie flows completely on the actors who portray the characters, basically the four people presented therein carry this movie and it is a fun-filled romp more abuot friendship and family than it is about zombie killing, there is a little bit of survival involved as well. Enjoy.

Wolf Man, The (1941)

The first impression I get from this movie is that the amount of werewolf background or exposition is negligable. That is to say, they don't focus as much on the history as they do on the effect it has on Lon Chaney's character.

The great part of this film is that it gets started right away. Chaney's character is bit within the first 10 minutes of the movie. After that, there are some dragging parts where Talbot (Chaney's character) tries half-heartedly to convince everyone that he only killed a wolf, not the gypsy Bela, played by horror film legend Bela Legosi, who is almost a cameo in the film. His lack of screen time is regrettable, considering his potential in a great classic such as this.

The "romance" between Talbot and Gwen Conliffe (played by Evelyn Ankers) is short-lived and painfully lacking. It seems less a romance than a forced lustful affair, considering she is engaged to another. Of course, all of these lacking performances and content could be attributed to the run time of only 70 minutes.

The makeup is shockingly impressive for its time. Although Chaney looks like he's been painted up in black-face, the time and effort that went into his makeup and costume is respectable, especially the work down on his wolf-like feet. The death scenes are questionable and unreal but, then again, they weren't big into blood and gore back in 1941.

Ultimately, the film climaxes with a painful look between a dying Talbot and his father, which turns out to be heartbreakingly tragic.

Overall, considering the time and budget, The Wolfman is an unforgettable classic that set the stage for other werewolf movies. While it leaves much to be desired, there came to be plenty of sequels to make up for that.

Comic Books

Hello and welcome to my blog. I am a film maker at heart, a writer and an actor as well. I will post blogs about my movie projects and perhaps even have guest bloggers show up, like my wife who is a much more talented film maker than I, just check this out:

So I will review movies, books, games and anything else I can get my hands on. This is a blog after all. But primarily my main webpage is here: www.myspace.com/sequelproductions , please feel free to add as a friend.

I started this page to keep track of my comic book collection and keep a database there of. Thank you, Matt.
